In a world where status-rich prestige-sector cars appear to attract more and more willing buyers the world over, it hardly comes as a surprise to discover that the manufacturing plants of Germany’s leading prestige car makers have been working right up to their installed capacity limits

Mercedes, kept in the fast lane by lively West European demand for it’s A- and B-Class based cars, helped by a near 30 per cent jump in last year’s West European sales of its E-Class to just under 130,000 units, last year increased its car production in Germany by a strong 6.1 per cent to 1,131,316 units, according to VDA data.

Moreover, thanks in large measure to a marked uplift in last year’s Mercedes Car assembly in China, last year’s Mercedes car production outsider German borders rose by a notably faster 10.4 per cent to 1.42 million cars from the 1.28 million cars built outside Germany the year before.

The number of Mercedes cars both built and sold in China last year rose by a third to some 423,000 units from the 250,000 assembled in China only two years earlier.

At the same time though, Mercedes has moved more of its passenger car production to countries like Hungary and the US for instance.
