China Mercedes sales October 2017

Daimler’s high-flying Mercedes car subsidiary, the world’s leading seller of high-image prestige-sector cars, already sold more of its cars in China in the first 10 months of this year than it did during the whole of last year, yet the rate of growth is starting to slow

Compared to the whole of last year, which ended with 472,800 Mercedes car sales in China, this year’s Mercedes car sales in China, after just ten month, already zoomed to a record 488,914 units.

Testament to the company’s seemingly unswerving upward thrust, this follows a still robust 10.9 per cent surge this October, bringing Mercedes’ ten months car sales gain in China to 27.8 per cent.

These global sales patterns were to an extent echoed by BMW’s latest nine months global car deliveries.

BMW’s nine months car sales in China rose 15.2 per cent to 436,657 units, directly following a notably slower 7.1 per cent rise in September.

The astonishing sales success in the world’s fastest growing and most profitable prestige car market comes on top of a long string of Mercedes car sales records in China.

Meanwhile, in a highly rewarding segment that it has dominated until last year, and thanks to a hugely damaging dispute with its powerful Chinese dealers, since the start of this year Audi was unceremoniously dethroned by Mercedes as China’s top-selling prestige sector carmaker.

However, Audi, which until last year has dominated China’s prestige car sector since time immemorial, won't stand idly by and watch combative Mercedes or BMW carve up highly valuable market share in this or next year’s still growing Chinese prestige sector market. AID reports...
