West European BEV Electric car sales 2017 Q3 September

More pure electric cars have already been sold so far this year than the whole of last year. In Western Europe, with just three months left to the end of the year, the electric car industry has already broken all previous sales records, registering a total of 96,882 BEVs so far this year, already marginally up on full year 2016 sales, according to AIDís own exclusive numbers. For several years, electric car registrations in Western Europe flat-lined at little more than half-a-percentage point of the regionís total new car market.

Now, however, they are growing.

Judged from the pace seen in Europe during the past three or so months the underlying health of the segment has improved markedly.

Thatís fuelled in no small measure by astonishing high ongoing growth in Norway plus a notable sudden pick up in car buyersí interest in Germany and a number of other West European markets, albeit from last yearís very low levels.

West Europeís September electric car sales activity continued to expand at a markedly faster than earlier expected pace, according to AIDís own compiled figures.

Testament to the faster selling rate, Septemberís sales share of pure electric cars (BEVs) reached 1.1 per cent. Underlining the positive message, thatís the third time in the past four months that BEVs captured at least 1 per cent or more of West Europeís BEV market.

0.9% BEV share Western Europe September YTD

According to AIDís own exclusive figures, Septemberís BEV sales in the region soared nearly a third to 14,887 units, increasing West Europeís BEV sales share after nine months to 0.9 per cent from 0.6 per cent the year before.
