World premium car sales quarterly history AID

Daimler’s still high-flying Mercedes car brand, under fire from powerful volleys of competitive shots from compatriot prestige sector rivals BMW and Audi, nevertheless retained September’s and year to date position as the world's top-selling prestige car brand

Mercedes’ renewed victory in the world’s highly profitable prestige car segment, the 15th successive month of global prestige car sector leadership, is due in large measure to Mercedes energetic sales surge in China.

Despite Audi’s spirited rebound in China, thanks to a settlement with its previously rebellious Chinese dealers, for the nine months to September this year Mercedes still retained China’s coveted luxury car leadership.

Drawing attention to Mercedes’ continuing car sales thrust in China, its nine months there have already topped last year’s comparative levels by just over 100,000 units.

Tellingly, this keeps Mercedes’ Chinese car sales operation on course for close on 600,000 sales this year.

Soothing comfort for Audi’s senior management in Ingolstadt, for the fourth months in a row Audi has clawed back the lead in China’s prestige sector car market.
