EUROPE | ELECTRIC CAR MARKET |   AID DATA
April BEV sales slide back into slow lane

West European Electric car sales trends by month April 2017

Aprilís electric car market, on the face of it, retains all the familiar hallmarks of an excruciatingly slow advancing market segment, suggesting that Europeís inevitable shift towards a new era of electric vehicle propulsion will be a great deal slower than some industry optimists had earlier anticipated. The down to earth view that Europeís BEV market still remains miles short of reaching a potential breakthrough level is driven home by the realisation that at this yearís one-third stage West Europeís BEV sales share has reached 0.8 per cent. That compares with nearly 0.7 per cent at the same stage last year, according to AIDís own data

This downbeat message is underlined by AIDís exclusively compiled electric car sales (BEV) numbers for April, showing yet another small 3.4 per cent rise in West Europeís BEV sales to 7,558 units.

That translates into a 0.68 per cent overall car sales penetration for the month and compares with a 0.60 per cent sales share during the same month last year.

But itís not as bad as it seems.

Latest numbers, under closer scrutiny, reveal the odd nugget of good news, thus painting a notably less disheartening overall European picture for Europeís hard-trying electric car industry.
