Premium car manufactures market share gains pre financial crisis

With West Europe’s new car sales finally inching back to the 14m level last year, the autoindustry’s best turnout since pre-crisis 2007, the car sales gap between Europe’s hard-squeezed volume car makers and their still money-raking premium car rivals has continued to widen

Looking provisionally at a 2007 and 2016 comparison, Europe’s prestige carmakers on the one hand and leading value brands Škoda, Dacia and Korea’s Hyundai-Kia on the other stand out as the market’s principal winners, according to AID’s provisional sales figures. 

On a like-for-like sales comparison between pre-crisis 2007 and last year, leading premium car makers Audi, BMW and Mercedes all stand out as winners, gaining further substantial West European sales at the direct expense of their mass-market brethren
