AID’s October health check takes an in-depth look
at West Europe’s diesel car market including the salient changes currently underway and takes
a stab at what the short-term future holds for this key sector.
On first sight the October report contains some soothing news for Europe’s deeply
anxious diesel car industry, but under closer scrutiny these same figures suggests that the
entrenched underlying erosion in Europe’s diesel car market is continuing
unabated.
It looks like the beginning of a reprieve for Europe’s gloom-laden diesel car market.
But what looks like a spot of cheer for an anxious diesel car industry, chiefly
October’s outwardly healthier looking 49.4 per cent diesel car sales share for Western Europe, it isn’t quite
what it seems.
According to AID’s latest regular sector health check, a miraculous rebound in Italy’s diesel car
demand in October masked a continuing underlying weakening of diesel car demand in the wider European
