Sales share of SUV-Crossovers, thanks to cheap fuel, zooms to new all-time record America’s new car sales in the two months to February this year picked up where they left off from last year’s bumper result, with Light-Trucks leaving conventionally bodied passenger cars like Toyota’s sector leading Camry way behind in the dust. In particular, thus echoing the trends witnessed of late in major global car sales regions such as China and Western Europe, SUVs are continuing to act as a major magnet. Their rekindled popularity is such that in the two months to February this year the US sales share of SUV-Crossovers ballooned to 37.6 per cent, setting yet another all-time record. Put into perspective, that’s almost twice the sales share seen in the US at the millennium change.
