With eyes focused on the perpetually expanding market for affordable and versatile family-size cars with four rather than two driven wheels, VW Groupís SEAT offshoot has joined its Czech äkoda brother by also launching its Golf-based Leon estate with a near go-anywhere all-wheeldrive system
Called Leon X-PERIENCE, the 5-door lifestyle estate, first launched with a conventional 2WD driveline in Europe in late 2013, now comes equipped with the VW pioneered HALDEX 4WD system.
It adds notable added versatility and safety to this already well received latest Leon range.
UK prices for the newly rolled out 4WD derivative of SEATís Leon estate start at £24,920 for the manual 150PS diesel derivative.
A comparison with the manual 2WD Leon estate, also powered by the 150PS 2.0 litre diesel Ė and priced in the UK at £21,745 - the on-cost for the 4WD option is £3,175 or 14.6 per cent.
But that on-cost, apart from the cost of the complex HALDEX 4WD system, is at least partly due to the markedly more sophisticated multi-link rear suspension fitted to the new X-PERIENCE plus a
host of extra features.
Other than that, in the UK its technically near identical äkoda bloodbrother - the 4WD Octavia Scout - is priced at a slightly higher £25,405...more
