Mercedes - Daimler’s luxury car arm - true to its upbeat earlier forecast for the current year, has
made a flying start into 2015
Driven in large measure by a double-digit car sales expansion in China’s prestige car market and a near
13 per cent sales gain in Western Europe, Mercedes’ high-flying car offshoot increased its first quarter sales
revenue by 15 per cent to €19.5bn.
That follows a slightly stronger 18 per cent jump in global car sales to 459,708 units.
The steep rise in sales is due partly to the expected initial sales bounce from its newly rolled out
Smart range, a product jointly developed with Renault
Nevertheless, excluding Smart, global sales of the Mercedes brand rose 14.8 per cent to close on
430,000 units, paced by a faster 16.6 per cent jump in China
