Lull before the storm  
For now at least, China builds cars foremost for its own consumption

One intriguing conclusion that emerges from last year’s global car production figures is that China may have transformed itself into a true giant on the global car sales front, but for now at least it remains a mere dwarf on the car export scene. 

But if today’s view of most autoindustry experts is anything to go by, it is not a question of if, but rather when China too will become a major force on the global car export front.

Other than that, the other notable message sent out by last year’s much improved car production numbers is that the US Light-Vehicle market has bounced back a great deal faster than could have been expected at the same stage last year
