Ongoing car sales wobble in three out of four BRIC member countries

Apart from China and the US, there were few notable other bright spots on the industry’s global car sales radar. The way things stand at present, of the BRIC region’s four pillars of strength, no fewer than three were subjected to a major wobble. 

Disappointing for all concerned, last year’s new car sales in India, which was earlier singled out as one of the world’s fastest gaining new car markets, the worst may have been averted. 

But last year’s 2.5 per cent sales gain to 1.85 million passenger cars, is hardly anything to write home about. 

Put into proper perspective, last year’s car sales turnout in India directly compares with almost 2.5m new car sales in last year’s rejuvenated British market, which also stands out as the only notable bright spot in Western Europe.

Brazil’s and Russia’s car markets thrown back into reverse 

Just like BRIC member India, so far at least Brazil has evidently failed to turn into the widely expected blockbuster car market.
