WORLD AID EXCLUSIVE
Global car sales zoom to new record high, fourth record in a row
Boosted chiefly by high ongoing demand in China and an earlier than feared return to pre-crisis sales levels in the US

2014 world passenger car sales global

AID’s exclusively compiled provisional car sales figures for the whole of last year reveal that global passenger car sales, apart from the short-lived hiccup in crisis-struck 2008 and 2009, have resumed their long-term upward trajectory with a fourth successive year of expanding sales. Global car sales in 2014 were the highest on record, boosted chiefly by high ongoing demand in China and an earlier than feared return to pre-crisis sales levels in the US

For yet another year, the fourth successive global car sales record is principally due to the insatiable appetite from China’s new car buyers, who more than made up for the sales shortfall seen in other key trading regions.

That includes the sudden and previously unexpected change in fortunes in BRIC markets Brazil, Russia and India, which of late have lost much of their shine as the famously tagged former car industry savers.

Figures for last year’s Chinese car sales, to be published soon, are expected to show that pure passenger cars, excluding light commercials of all sorts, rose 11.9 per cent to a new all-time high of around 17.8 million units.

In consequence, China now stands out head and shoulders above the rest as the world’s biggest car market.

AID’s provisional car sales figures for last year, based on a representative sample of key global car sales regions such as China, the US and much of Europe, reveal that global new car sales during the whole of 2014 rose 5.3 per cent to 62.1 million cars, thus setting a fourth successive all-time record.

It suggests that the world’s global car market, following a comparatively short-lived pause for breath during the peak years of the recently endured global financial crisis, has rejoined the inexorable march to higher and higher sales volumes.
