GM’s Opel-Vauxhall, together with Korea’s Hyundai-Kia were October’s principal winners in the leading pack. With one notable exception - the meteoric ascent of also-ran Mitsubishi - October’s star performers could be found in the middle ranks of West Europe's best-sellers chart

Upwardly mobile carmakers Nissan, Dacia and SEAT, whose October sales outpaced the overall car market by a very long stretch, stand out as October’s biggest gainers. 

AID’s provisional sales data reveals that their October car sales grew by between 19 and 26 per cent, adding up to around four times the market average.

While Europe’s traditional powerhouse brands such as Volkswagen, Peugeot-Citroen, Renault and Ford also ended the month with improved sales, neither of these managed to outpace October’s overall market. 

Toyota – also placed in the middle bunch of volume carmakers - ranks amongst October’s main losers.

Outlander PHEV October sales in the UK


The way and ahead fastest climber, albeit from a lowly bottom-ender position was Mitsubishi. 

Its October sales, thanks in large measure to the sudden meteoric climb from its Outlander plug-in (PHEV), rocketed ahead by almost 80 per cent. 

That’s doubly underlined by news that October’s Outlander PHEV sales in the UK alone spiralled to some 1,013 units
