Nissan outsells Toyota in West Europeís September car market
For the third time this year, Nissan has overtaken Toyota as the biggest Japanese car seller in Western Europe

Toyota Nissan West European car sales trends 2014

For the third time this year, Nissan has overtaken Toyota as the biggest Japanese car seller in Western Europe Ė Nissanís 9-months car sales share zooms to 3.7 per cent, an all-time record

According to AIDís provisional car sales figures for September, Nissanís new car sales in Western Europe rose almost 17 per cent to close on 49,000 units, largely because of its new Qashqai and its considerable extra efforts in Britain, which still stands out as Europeís main growth locomotive.

In Western Europe, Toyotaís September sales lurched into reverse, missing last yearís same month level by almost 3 per cent, according to AIDís own provisional September car sales estimates.

The happy tale of upwardly moving Nissan contrasts with todayís sorry state of Toyota, which no longer looks like the hot company that it once was. 

Nissan in contrast, following half-a-decade of almost unbroken European growth, this year has raised its nine months West European market share to 3.7 per cent, the highest level on record.

And thatís before its latest mainstream product, its new Pulsar family hatchback, has reached the market. 

Toyota, which clearly left Nissan way behind in the dust during its fast-growth phase between 1998 and 2007, has continued to lose market share in subsequent years
