India’s hard-pressed carmakers, after suffering a comparatively stiff double-digit dip in home sales last year, and a poor start to the current year, were treated this year to a first nugget of good news showing that domestic sales of passenger cars this July rose by 5 per cent, marking the third successive gain in a row

Since the start of this year’s second quarter India’s anxious autoindustry greeted with a huge sigh of relief the first encouraging signs of a potential turnaround story. 

Recent upbeat numbers give a first glimpse of what might be in store during this year’s second half, but hardly anybody in India’s automotive circles lives under the illusion that this year’s home run will be a stroll in the park
