VW Group flags by brand 2014

AIDís exclusive survey of notable winners and losers in Julyís bloody West European car sales wars shows the already market-dominating VW Group as the biggest notable winner, thanks to strenuous extra efforts from some of its rich assortment of brands. Already one in four of all new cars sold in Western Europe is now a VW Group product 

Provisional West European car sales data for July, compiled by AID, shows that combined efforts from VWís rich assortment of brands mopped up added sales in July, crowning the already leading group as the biggest notable winner in the group. 

Helped by added car sales efforts in its gradually expanding German backyard, VW Group sales this July rose twice as fast as the recovering overall West European market.

A clear endorsement of VW Groupís sales gains, its July share of West Europeís expanding overall car sales pie rose to 26 per cent, thus beating last year's same month level by almost 1.5 percentage points. 

This expansion has come mainly at the expense of still flagging Peugeot-Citroen and Ford, but also weak-looking Hyundai-Kia and even Toyota. 

By contrast, hard-battling Opel-Vauxhall marginally outperformed Julyís recovering market
