Two-pronged Renault-Dacia assault, May sales share climbs one full percentage point
French carmaker Renault, with a near 18 per cent car sales surge in May

According to figures exclusively compiled by AID every month, French carmaker Renault, with a near 18 per cent car sales surge in May, remains West Europeís fastest gaining volume carmaker in the leading pack

To no oneís surprise in Europeís autoindustry circles, Mayís battle for a lasting sales share of Europeís recovering car market saw yet another big salvo fired from Renaultís Dacia budget brand. 

However, May saw a slight diversion from familiar recent trends. 

Thatís in the sense that this time round Renaultís battle for a bigger slice of West Europeís recovering car market consists of a two-pronged attack. 

Thatís the combined forces of both the Renault and Dacia brands.

While Dacia posted yet another double-digit car sales gain in May, Renault followed suit with an only marginally less energetic sales surge. 

Testament to their newly combined fire-power, group car sales this May rose almost five times faster than the overall market, boosting Renault Groupís May car sales share by a full percentage point. 

By contrast, its PSA Peugeot-Citroen compatriot, evidently more reluctant to add more fuel to the regionís already bright burning incentive fires, was clearly left way behind in the dust. 

On the plus side, in spite of Mayís largely static domestic French car market, PSA did well to keep its sales share of Mayís overall West European market at an unchanged 11.1 per cent
