Not so very long ago some learned autoindustry visionaries still painted a picture of European motoristsí gradually changing relationships with their long-favoured fuel-economical diesel cars, potentially redrawing the map in terms of the continentís deeply ingrained motoring preferences.

Fast forward only a handful or so years to the present day, and after first terrifying all those earning much of their living in Europeís long-flourishing diesel car business, latest AID compiled data tells an altogether more soothing tale.

After digesting latest detailed figures, Europeís autoindustry may derive some soothing comfort from the fact that underlying demand for latest diesel-fuelled cars in Europe still looks remarkably healthy. 

Earlier reports of the slow death of the diesel car have been greatly exaggerated, to paraphrase Mark Twain.

What was supposed to look like a picture of a gradually dying market remains a market-dominating segment in robust good health.
