4WD cars now account for almost one-in-three new car sales in Norway

Last year’s segment expansion was strongest in some of the region’s archetypal 4WD markets. 

Expressed in segment share rather than outright annual sales numbers, last year’s sector growth was most vigorous in Norway.

Evidently helped on the one hand by the country’s latitude, comparatively snow-rich winters in the northern parts and by no means least, some of the highest average incomes in Europe, the sales share of 4WD equipped cars ballooned to 32.4 per cent from an already high 28 per cent in the previous year. 

Both years set a new all-time record for the segment.

Last year’s top sellers in the segment were the Toyota RAV-4, Mitsubishi Outlander and the Volkswagen Tiguan with respective full year sales of 3,395 , 2,989 and 2,888, followed in turn by Nissan’s Qashqai and Volvo’s XC60 with sales of 2,627 and 2,106
