Race on for rich pickings in China’s booming SUV-Crossover market

There was mixed news from China’s many intrinsic carmakers. 

The whole group may have kept pace with the underlying momentum from the overall market, resulting in a largely unchanged overall car sales share of almost 30 per cent, but some group members performed a great deal better than others. 

Again, thanks to the striking success of its SUV-Crossovers, Great Wall took last year’s honours, by emerging as China’s leading carmaker on home soil.

Great Wall, following a one-third jump in domestic car sales to almost 585,000 units emerged as last year’s leading domestic carmaker. 

Following a year in which its home sales grew at almost twice the pace of the overall market helped catapult its domestic car sales share to almost 4 per cent from the 3.5 per cent sales share still held in the previous year. 

By any measure, Great Wall’s rapid climb to fame is due to the remarkable success of its SUV-Crossovers
