Incentives blur true competitive picture
Hyundai, like Volkswagen, appears to have cut back incentive spending

Like market leading Volkswagen, Hyundai-Kia too appears to have put the brakes on its incentive spending. 

The thrust that still characterised its European performance in Europeís recession-hit markets last year is suddenly missing, tempting some market observers to the view that both Volkswagen and Koreaís Hyundai-Kia appear to have succumbed to a dose of profit making. 

A case in point, Hyundai-Kiaís October car sales eased back by close on 1 per cent, thus trimming the groupís October car sales share to a lower 5.5 per cent from 5.8 per cent a year ago.

The Kia brand was up 2.4 per cent this October, but Hyundaiís sales fell by a contrasting 3.7 per cent.

The contrast was most revealing in the still expanding UK car market. While the UKís October sales continued to head into an upward direction, this time with a notably slower 4 per cent, Hyundaiís same month sales in the UK slipped headlong into the exact opposite direction.
