European car sales trends last eight quarters

Green shoots are finally sprouting across West Europe’s drought-struck automotive landscape, supporting the cautiously upbeat view that from now on the long-ailing patient could be strong enough to walk totally unaided. 

While autoindustry bigwigs will breathe a sigh of relief, there is no room for complacency says AID, adding that an extra working day accounted for at least some of September’s gain.

Sales of new cars in western Europe in September compared to previous year


The strongest sign yet of a likely turnaround in West Europe’s deepest and longest car sales drought for close on two decades has been detected in latest car sales numbers. 

Sales of new cars in Western Europe rose by 5.5 per cent to 1.14m units last month, accompanied by upbeat signs that at long last the smothering blanket of gloom was finally lifting in the vast majority of markets
