August Sales - Bumps in the road to recovery?
West Europe’s August car market slips back into decline - blip or trend?

Of late West Europe’s car market has been on a roller coaster ride. 

After eighteen months of continuously falling sales, since this year’s second quarter market observers were treated to the odd month of spirit boosting growth and hand wringing decline. 

A renewed dive in August sales - down 5.3 per cent - coming in the wake of a confidence boosting 4.5 per cent gain this July, adds credence to the view that this year’s West European car market has been unpredictable.

Encouraging car sales gains this April, followed for good measure by a 4.4 per cent gain in July, first offered Europe’s embattled autoindustry hope that their industry’s worst sales drought for close on two
decades might be nearly over. 

Instead, what was whispered among industry insiders at this year’s outwardly glitzy and well-attended Frankfurt Motor Show is the prospect of a renewed setback, thereby delaying the gradual rebound in West European new car sales until next year
