West European August car sales history trend

After a brief rebound, this August Europeís car sales were struggling again, pulled down by yet another dip in Germany. 

The renewed car sales slide dampened the party atmosphere at this yearís Frankfurt motor show, but commentators remain unsure as to whether Augustís 5.3 per cent dip in sales was a mere blip or the premature end of a previously promising looking recovery phase.

Hopes of a gradually strengthening European car sales recovery were dealt a blow earlier this month by far weaker than expected car sales activity this August, raising fears that the marketís still faint green shoots of recovery are already starting to wilt again. 

New car sales this August were lower than a year ago in a dozen markets, including all but one of the regionís five major markets.
