Finally it seems, the lights have switched from red to amber. 

Spotting the crucial turn when it happens is never easy, but after almost half-a-dozen years of plummeting West European car sales, the second rise in four months gives hope to the dispirited.

July car sales in Western Europe rose 4.4 per cent, thus offering the first ray of hope to a crisis-stricken car industry in a market where sales have now fallen in twenty of the past twenty-two months. 

To some industry watchers, viewing latest developments, July’s upbeat turnout suggests – finally – that West Europe’s battered car market is through the steepest and worst sales crash in two decades, pointing to brightening skies on the horizon
